Kuching General Post Office: Sarawak’s Neo-Classical Postal Landmark

Completed in 1931 and designed by Denis Santry of Swan & Maclaren, the building features a grand colonnaded portico with ten towering Corinthian columns, semi-circular arches, and intricate friezes. Its elegant façade and deep parapet walls conceal a pitched roof, blending form and function seamlessly. Beyond its architectural splendor, the post office holds historical significance, having served as a communication hub during World War II. Today, it remains a cherished heritage site, reflecting Kuching’s colonial past and architectural grandeur.
