After entering Danjo Temple from the snake-belly road of the approach to the temple, the first thing that comes into view is the impressive landmark, the Konpon Daito. The Great Pagoda was built as the fundamental dojo of Shingon Esoteric Buddhism, and it is also the earliest architectural style of the Duobao Pagoda in Japan. The pagoda, rebuilt in 1937, is about 49 meters high and contains Buddha statues and murals representing three-dimensional mandalas. The Golden Hall, located in the center of the temple, is the main hall of the vast Koyasan Mountain, and important events are still held here. Most of the buildings in the area, except for the national treasure Fudo Hall, were burned down due to lightning strikes and other reasons and had to be rebuilt.
