Mojiko Port in Kitakyushu City was once a prosperous trading port. Since the end of the Showa era, the area has begun to renovate historical buildings, transforming into the "Mojiko Nostalgic District" full of the romantic atmosphere of the Taisho era. Kitakyushu City's Moji Port is connected to Dalian, China via international shipping routes, and in 1979, it became a sister city with Dalian. To commemorate the 15th anniversary of the friendship city, a fine replica of the railway and steamship company building built by the Russian Empire in Dalian in 1902 was built as the "International Friendship Memorial Library". The brown and white tiles on the exterior walls complement each other beautifully, and the window designs on the chimneys and roofs are also impressive. Moji Port is located at the northernmost tip of Kyushu, facing the Kanmon Strait. Before World War II, the area was a prosperous trading port, and was known as one of the "Three Major Ports of Japan" along with Kobe Port and Yokohama Port. Mojiko has preserved many famous buildings from the Meiji era to the early Showa era, presenting a retro streetscape. Since the end of the Showa era, local maintenance and renovation work has begun on the neighborhood. In 1995, the urban tourist attraction "Mojiko Retro District" opened to the public. The local night view is particularly charming.
