The museum itself is a red brick historical monument. It was built in 1891 and was originally the headquarters building of the Kyushu Railway Company. In addition to displaying real trains and railway cultural heritage from past dynasties, you can also experience driving a mini railway and operating a train through a simulator. Transportation Guide: Kyushu Railway Museum is located next to #JR Mojiko Station, only about 5 minutes' walk away. It looks very close on the map, but in fact the straight-line distance is about 85 kilometers. There are four ways to get there: 1. Take the Kagoshima Main Line from #JR Hakata Station to JR Mojiko Station. There is no need to change trains and the whole journey takes about 100 minutes. 2. Take the Shinkansen from JR Hakata Station to JR Kokura Station, then transfer to the Kagoshima Main Line regular or rapid train to JR Mojiko. The journey takes about 45 minutes and is the fastest but also the most expensive way. 3. Take the Sonic limited express train from JR Hakata Station to JR Kokura Station and transfer to the Kagoshima Main Line to JR Mojiko. Usually the special express train will stop at the same platform as the Kagoshima Main Line train to facilitate passengers to transfer; 4. Take a bus from Hakata Bus Terminal or Tenjin Expressway Bus Terminal to Mojiko, the whole journey takes about 90 minutes. The Kyushu Railway Museum is smaller than other railway museums in Japan, and the ticket price is only 300 yen, 150 yen for junior high school students and below, and free for children under four years old. The museum is divided into outdoor and indoor exhibitions. There are three locomotives on display at the door, all of which are railway champions that once flourished in the Kyushu region. You can also enter the cab and actually experience operating the various mechanisms and buttons on the dashboard. Then there will be a whole row of vehicles on display, and you can go in and touch and sit in each one. These locomotives and carriages are all retired and well-preserved historical relics. Next, you will see the red brick main building, which preserves passenger cars from the Meiji era as well as Kyushu Railway's money-making tools, emblems, tools, tickets, clothing, etc., as well as a driving simulator, a children's playroom, and a popular Kyushu Railway model display stand centered on Hakata Station. Of course, the souvenir shop is indispensable at the end. There is also a railway park outdoors where you can experience driving a mini train. A ride costs 300 yen. There are five different trains running here. If you are lucky, you can even ride the cute mini Yufuin Forest! This is an entertaining and educational place suitable for family trips.
