Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon, Nong Waeng Temple

Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon is located in Wat Nong Waeng, Tambon Nai Mueang, Amphoe Mueang Khon Kaen, Khon Kaen Province. This temple was originally an ancient temple of Khon Kaen, more than 200 years old. Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon was only built in 1996 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the accession to the throne of King Rama IX. It is very beautiful and magnificent. The top of the chedi is a replica of the top of Phra That Phanom. Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon or the nine-tiered chedi is a reinforced concrete building with a chedi-shaped top. From the top of the chedi, you can clearly see the view of Bueng Kaen Nakhon and Khon Kaen. Phra That Kaen Nakhon is 80 meters high and has four small chedis at the four corners. It is surrounded by a seven-headed naga wall. It is an art form from the Dvaravati period mixed with Indochinese art. There are nine floors inside the chedi.
