[Kawagoe] Retro architecture that blends Japanese and Western styles

Kawagoe, Saitama Former Yamazaki Family Villa Built in 1925 (Taisho 14) as a retirement home for the fifth generation owner of Kameya, a long-established confectionery shop in Kawagoe, this mansion is a mix of Japanese and Western styles. It is now open to the public as a nationally designated important cultural property. The design was wonderful, with stained glass and lighting. It was said to have been a private guesthouse in Kawagoe, where members of the imperial family stayed. It was designed by architect Yasuoka Katsuya. Mr. Yasuoka studied under Tatsuno Kingo, who also designed Tokyo Station, and designed the former 85th Bank main building in Kawagoe (now Resona Coedo Terrace). I happened to come across this mansion while I was researching, but I was able to experience the history of Kawagoe.
