Meinong, a suburb of Kaohsiung, was once selected as one of Taiwan's top ten tourist towns. During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese army built a power plant here, giving it a distinctly Japanese feel. With 90% of the population being Hakka, Meinong boasts numerous Hakka cultural attractions, such as Yong'an Old Street and the Meinong Folk Village, offering a glimpse into the authentic Hakka culture. Beyond Hakka culture, visitors can also enjoy the stunning lake and mountain scenery. Meinong Lake is Kaohsiung's second largest lake, boasting a lakeside walking and bicycle trail lined with red-flowered cypress, bald cypress, and water willow. In the surrounding farmland, during the winter when crops are not cultivated, various flowers are planted for free viewing by visitors. The Meinong Cultural and Creative Center, located on Yong'an Old Street, was converted from the century-old Meinong Police Station. It is the only remaining official building from the Japanese colonial era in the Meinong area. Its Baroque exterior and Japanese-style interior create a unique blend of Japanese and Western elements. Cradle Café in the Cultural and Creative Center offers light meals, desserts, coffee, and drinks. -The Meinong Hakka Museum showcases the life, customs, and history of the Hakka people. There's also the Meinong Library, where the curtains are decorated with Hakka-dyed fabrics, reflecting Meinong's rustic yet Japanese style. -Meinong's delicious food is also a must-try.
