RAR BAR at the Cheng Yih Hotel Kaohsiung|24F A Tipsy Night with Harbor Skyline

#September2025 The breeze by the pool, the light through the glass, and a table filled with just the right balance of salty and sweet 🍸🌆 Leave the evening to the sea breeze and the city lights—at the RAR BAR at the Cheng Yih Hotel in Kaohsiung, watch the changing sky reflected by the transparent cantilevered infinity pool, a cocktail at hand and a table full of snacks, life suddenly takes on the speed of a movie. My afternoon at RAR BAR: From the book wall to the blue lights, to the twilight of the harbor I was first captivated by the lofty "wine library"-like book wall in the lobby, its stacked wooden cabinets creating a sense of order. Heading up to the 24th floor, above the bar, a blue light strip and mirror installation refracts light off the glass windows and stainless steel, perfect for taking photos. Window seats offer a view all the way to the harbor, where the cloud images seem to capture the sea breeze within the creases of the sky. The indoor volume is subdued, creating a comfortable soundstage for conversation. Stepping outside, you'll find the poolside of the transparent, cantilevered infinity pool—a rare urban landscape in Kaohsiung and the very essence of RAR BAR (located on the 24th floor, overlooking the infinity pool). We ordered three dishes: creamy wild mushroom pasta, black truffle and porcini risotto, or a carpaccio appetizer (depending on the menu), and truffle fries. The pasta had a springy texture, and the sauce was light yet fragrant. The carpaccio appetizer featured balsamic and baby sprouts, the acidity brightening the fat. The truffle fries had photogenic, sharp corners, and a sprinkle of Parmesan for a crispy texture. This table wasn't overly ostentatious, but perfectly captured the rhythm of "viewing the view + chatting." ⸻ Background Story and Development: A Local Aesthetic Hotel, Dedicated to the Harbor City's Nightlife TAi Urban Resort is a distinctive urban resort destination in Kaohsiung in recent years. From its architecture to its curated offerings, it emphasizes local culture and contemporary design. The hotel has transformed its public spaces into an "urban living room," with a bar on the 24th floor and a poolside sky bar that defines the nightlife landscape. RAR BAR specializes in creative takes on classic cocktails and light party food, eschewing the traditional aloofness for a cool, open atmosphere. During the day, it offers a poolside spot for a refreshing dip, while at night, it offers a breathtaking view of the harbor lights. Official information clearly states: RAR BAR is located on the 24th floor, open daily from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM. ⸻ How to Get There | Transportation (Smooth and Luggage-Friendly) • MRT: Kaohsiung MRT Red Line R8, Sanduo Shopping District Station, Exit 2. Go straight along Sanduo 1st Road to Linsen 4th Road, turn right, and walk about 8-10 minutes to the hotel. • Light Rail: Get off at Kaohsiung Exhibition Center Station. The hotel is a short walk away (a 3-5 minute taxi ride is recommended in hot weather). • Driving/Taxi: Simply say "Cheng Yi Hotel, No. 189, Linsen 4th Road, Qianzhen District"; parking is available on site and discounts are subject to availability. ⸻ What's the best place to order? —My Table's Dining Notes (with address!) • RAR BAR | Cheng Yi Hotel 24F (Address: 24F, No. 189, Linsen 4th Road, Qianzhen District, Kaohsiung City) • Classic/Creative Cocktails: Mainly refreshing, both visually appealing and drinkable. Don't drink and drive, and don't drive after drinking. • Creamy Wild Mushroom Pasta: The milky aroma is restrained, with the focus on the stacked mushrooms. For photos, a 45° angle is recommended to create a three-dimensional plate. • Carpaccio (available daily): The balance of fat and acidity will naturally slow you down. • Truffle Fries: A popular side dish, with a salty, crispy texture that keeps the conversation going. • Window Seat: Arrive 30 minutes before dusk to capture the sunrise, then wait for the city lights to come on. • Budget: Drinks and one or two light meals, starting at approximately NT$350–700 per person (varies depending on selection; subject to availability). ⸻ Photography and Seating Guide (Based on Your Photos) 1. Book Wall Close-up: Use a vertical composition to incorporate the layers of furnishings into the frame; 2. Blue Light Bar: Use a low angle to extend the light strip; 3. Window Table View: Place the rim of your cup 1/3 of the way to the horizon for a natural depth of field; 4. Outdoor Poolside: Be mindful of slippery surfaces; use a fingerprint-resistant wipe on your phone case for a cleaner look. ⸻ Connecting with the Surroundings (Attractions/Hotels) • Kaohsiung Exhibition Center/Haiyin Center/Port Travel Center: Afternoon stroll and evening light viewing; • Qianzhen Star/Light Rail Seaview Line: Perfect for photogenic moments during golden hour; • Accommodation: Stay at the Chengyi Hotel to enjoy the pool and bar; or choose the Ambassador InterContinental/Hanxuan for a different style combination. ⸻ Six Reasons I Recommend RAR BAR 1. Unique Scenery: A sky bar next to a transparent, cantilevered infinity pool, a rarity in Kaohsiung. 2. Unparalleled Views: Harbor lines and floor-to-ceiling windows bring the breath of the harbor city to your table. 3. Perfect for Photos: Book Wall, Blue Light, Window View, and Poolside—four guaranteed spots. 4. Friendly Hours: Afternoon Tea and Dinner, Flexible Timetables from 3:00 PM to 12:00 AM. 5. Convenient Transportation: Accessible by MRT, Light Rail, or Taxi, no hassles for those with luggage. 6. Urban Warmth: Not a raucous party, but a conversation-oriented nightlife experience. ⸻ Practical Tips (Avoiding Pitfalls/Safety/Cost) 💡 • Reservations: The peak hours are around sunset, so we recommend booking by phone or online. • Clothing: The poolside area may have occasional water marks on the floor, so wear slip-resistant shoes. For photogenic looks, dark or bright colors are recommended to complement the blue lighting. • Weather: Summer afternoon thunderstorms are common, so moving from outdoor seating to indoor seating can also improve photo opportunities. • Alcohol: Please limit your alcohol consumption to your budget. Please arrange for a designated driver/taxi in advance. • Budgeting Tips: One cocktail and one light meal, approximately NT$400–600 per person; two people sharing three drinks and two drinks, approximately NT$1,200–1,800. • Invoices/Parking: Parking discounts may apply, and these will be announced on-site. #August Spots 2025 #Photographing a Pool in Backlight - The biggest selling point of the Cheng Yi Hotel in Kaohsiung is its cantilevered, transparent, infinity pool on the 24th floor. When I first saw the official photos of the pool, I thought it was unique. However, upon arriving, I realized it was quite different from what I had imagined. - As soon as you enter the pool, you'll see the 85 Building. To the right and front of the pool, you'll see the InterContinental Kaohsiung. These two buildings are difficult to avoid when photographing. Other options include shooting toward the left and front of the pool. This direction allows you to capture the harbor and the sunset, but there's another problem: shooting toward the sunset is backlit, so you can only capture silhouettes. - Thankfully, I found an angle that turned out pretty good. To the right of the pool, near the restroom, there's a small plant. I used the green leaves of the plant as the foreground, adding a touch of life and warmth to the otherwise cold, avant-garde pool. My wife sat on the pool tiles, facing the outside light source. This way, the person in the photo is clearly visible and brings out the pool's unique character. Compared to the pool, I preferred the classic double room I stayed in this time. This room type doesn't have an actual wall, but instead uses a wooden frame and bamboo rattan to separate the bed and bathroom. Although it's called a "bathroom," the entire space actually includes a desk, an open wardrobe, and a sink. The sink is particularly beautiful. The mouthwash cups are silver and bronze, and the hand towels and cups are placed on a green marble tray. The toiletries are placed in a turquoise bamboo box. The quality is very good. Also worth mentioning is that the mirror on the sink has a light, making it very convenient for women to put on makeup. The most memorable part is the bathtub next to the floor-to-ceiling window. There's a small shelf on the tub, so you can make a cup of coffee or place a book on it while soaking. It's such a lovely atmosphere.
