The Pier-2 Art Center was originally named "Kaohsiung Port No. 2 Terminal". It was built in 1973 as a warehouse for storing fish meal and sugar at Kaohsiung Port. With the industrial transformation, it was forgotten and idle for a time. It was not until 2000 that the Kaohsiung City Government brought these old warehouses back to life when they were looking for a location for the National Day fireworks. In the past decade, the Pier-2 Art Center has been actively transforming itself, infusing more and more cultural, creative, trendy, and musical elements. It is the development site for many bands and cultural and creative designs, and has become the most popular classic tourist area in Kaohsiung today.
