[Kagoshima Prefecture] The Kurokami Buried Torii, a legacy of Sakurajima's eruption that tells of the Taisho eruption

The Kurokami Buried Torii Gate on Sakurajima in Kagoshima Prefecture ⛩️ It was originally a magnificent torii gate for the "Haragosha Shrine (Kurokami Shrine)" that was nearly 3 meters tall, but due to the great Sakurajima eruption in the Taisho era, it was completely covered in volcanic ash in just one day and was now shorter than a person's height 👀 The islanders tried to dig up the sacred torii gate, but at the suggestion of the village mayor at the time, they decided to leave it as it was as a legacy to convey the threat of the eruption to future generations! The torii gate has been designated a natural monument of Kagoshima Prefecture, and next to it is a magnificent old aco tree that miraculously survived the great Sakurajima eruption 🌲 If you go through the torii gate, you will find the shrine building of the "Haragosha Shrine (Kurokami Shrine)" that still exists, giving you a sense of history!
