Jinhua's Little Kyoto

"The Eight Yongs Tower has witnessed the everlasting charm, leaving the mountains and rivers as a legacy of sorrow for future generations. The waters reach three thousand miles to the southern states, and the city's atmosphere dominates over fourteen prefectures." The ancient city of Wuzhou extends from the Wanfo Pagoda Park in the east, to the south bank of the Wuyi River near Bayong Bridge, to the west side of the Yanweizhou River Heart in the west, and to the Sanqing Palace in the north, covering an area of about 1.5 square kilometers. The ancient city was founded during the late Han Dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period, and its inner city, also known as the 'Zi City', was built towards the end of the Tang Dynasty, with a history of over 1100 years, preserving the core layout of the ancient city for over a millennium. In addition, there are many historical buildings within the ancient Zi City, such as Tianning Temple, Xu Family Ancient Street, Zhuangyuan Fang, Zhang Residence, and a large number of ancient Ming and Qing residential buildings, including General Tower, Jinhua Gate, Xichun Gate, Wanfo Pagoda, Confucius Temple, etc. Within the district, there are also 10 ancient wells, among which the Xiwen Well and the Wine Spring Well are municipal cultural preservation sites, and the Zhendong Well has been listed in the historical building inventory. Key streets and alleys such as Bayong Street, Jiufang Alley, Pomegranate Alley, Drum Tower Lane, and Xichun Alley still maintain their historical street scale, spatial form, and traditional streetscape. Inside Xichun Alley, 13 ancient buildings claimed by citizens have been relocated, adding a grand and profound historical and cultural atmosphere to the ancient Zi City.
