Jingdezhen, the Porcelain Capital

Jingdezhen is an important node for tourism in Jiangxi, surrounded by several scenic areas such as Lushan and Wuyuan. The city center of Jingdezhen is at People's Square, and staying around this area is most convenient. On one side is the most important Imperial Kiln Museum, the place where the most exquisite pieces are made, bustling both day and night. A bit further away are the Ceramic Museum and the Ancient Kiln Scenic Area, where the museum requires a reservation and is customarily closed on Mondays. Inside the Ancient Kiln, you can see hand-painted porcelain, which is somewhat expensive, but it truly has an artistic flair, distinct from the fashionable hand-painted styles found elsewhere. Taoxi River is really big, seriously big. A serious stroll takes at least half a day, and there's a market on weekends. If you're looking for fine pieces, this is the place to be. I didn't go further to the ceramic factories and Sanbao Village, as those areas are more about mass production, and the porcelain is more ordinary.
