Jiayuguan Day Trip Guide: Perfect for Introverted Travelers

Hotel 🏨 Avoid this one⚠️: GHLY Jiayu Mingzhu Hotel is not recommended. 1️⃣ The facilities and rooms look okay because they are newly renovated, but the rooms have a bit of a smell. If you stay there, it is recommended to open the windows more often. 2️⃣ The staff made a mistake with the room assignments, which felt unprofessional. 3️⃣ There seems to be no warm air in the public areas, so you need to wear more clothes when it's cold. The breakfast gets cold quickly. 4️⃣ After ordering food to the room, no one came to collect the tableware after calling according to the meal collection process. 5️⃣ There are few shops and restaurants nearby, so it is not very convenient to go out for shopping or dining. Therefore, if you book a hotel yourself, it is recommended to avoid this one if you mind the above. 📍Jiayuguan Fortress Purchase a ticket for CNY 110 per person, including tickets for three attractions (Guan Fortress, the Overhanging Great Wall, and the First Pier of the Great Wall). The ticket also includes the electric tour bus in the Guan Fortress. Take the bus to enter the main scenic area of the Guan Fortress. It is nice to walk around the city tower and see the scenery, which is suitable for taking pictures. After watching, take the electric tour bus back. There are restaurants and supermarkets in the visitor center, and it is quite convenient to get a Luckin Coffee, etc. After shopping for a morning, it is just right to have a simple lunch here. 📍The Overhanging Great Wall The scenery in autumn is good. After entering, I walked a section of the Great Wall. When I got to the place where I needed to climb up to take pictures, I came down from the side stairs and didn't climb up any further to save energy and time. I took pictures around the area along the way. It feels pretty good when there are not many people. 📍The First Pier of the Great Wall There is an electric tour bus for CNY 12 per person and camels for CNY 100 per person to enter the scenic area. After entering the scenic area, there is quite a long distance to the main landscape of the First Pier, so it is recommended to take the electric tour bus for a quick and convenient ride. When you arrive at the main scenic area, you can visit the Historical and Cultural Experience Hall to see some introductions to geography and culture. There is also a river view near the viewing platform. According to the tour guide who came with the group, it is the Taolai River flowing from the Qilian Mountains. The scenery is quite beautiful. There is also a cableway that looks quite thrilling, but it was not open when I went. Finally, I checked in at the First Pier of the Great Wall, which is a large mound of earth that is quite fun. Then, I took the electric tour bus back to the entrance. I didn't have too high expectations for this scenic spot, so I felt okay after seeing it all the way. I like this feeling of uninhabited desert. The little camels in the distance are also very beautiful in the photos.
