Bear Tracks - Exploring the Ancient Town

In the ink-wash painting scroll of Jiangnan, Xitang Ancient Town is like a gentle pearl, quietly embedded in the river of time. Stepping into Xitang feels like entering a dream of the past. In the morning, a thin mist envelops the town, with bridges, flowing water, and houses faintly visible in the haze, resembling a light ink painting. The ancient stone paths, polished smooth by the years, echo with history with every step. Houses with white walls and dark tiles are arranged in a pleasing pattern, their blue-gray roof tiles gleaming softly in the sunlight, as if telling ancient legends. In the evening, the setting sun's glow spills across the water's surface, creating rippling reflections as slow-moving canopied boats glide by. The boatman's oar sounds blend with the gentle murmur of water, composing a melodious symphony. From deep within the ancient alleys comes the sound of Pingtan (traditional storytelling with music), its lilting tunes as enchanting as the tenderness of a Jiangnan woman. However, Xitang has its regrets. With the erosion of time, some buildings in the ancient town show signs of wear, and the once exquisite carved doors and windows are now somewhat damaged. The influx of tourists has also brought some noise to this peaceful land. The narrow streets are crowded with people, constant chatter breaking the town's original tranquility and serenity. The wave of commercialization has also quietly arrived, with traditional shops gradually being replaced by souvenir stalls. Those traditional handicrafts and ancient ways of life face the danger of being forgotten. Yet even so, Xitang remains the most beautiful place in my heart. Its beauty lies in its simplicity and tranquility, in the everyday warmth that flows through the years. It is like an elder who has weathered many storms, embracing everyone who enters with warm arms, allowing them to find a place of spiritual rest in this chaotic world.
