Jeonju Korean Traditional Wine Museum: A Taste of Tradition within Hanok Village

#cityplaybook Located conveniently within Jeonju's iconic Hanok Village (74 Hanji-gil, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeollabuk-do), the Jeonju Korean Traditional Wine Museum offers a fascinating delve into the world of traditional Korean alcoholic beverages. While the Hanok Village itself abounds with sights and activities, this museum provides a detailed and worthwhile exploration of traditional liquor. Upon visiting, I found it quite engaging to learn about the various traditional spirits. The museum features illustrations, akin to comics, detailing the traditional methods of brewing gayangju (home-brewed liquor). The exhibition space isn't vast, so the viewing time is relatively short, allowing for a concise and easy exploration – perfect for integrating into a Hanok Village stroll. A unique feature of the museum is the Yusanggoksuyeon (流觴曲水筵), a traditional stream where wine cups were floated in a winding canal in a garden on Samjinnal (the third day of the third lunar month), and scholars or aristocrats would compose poems as the cups drifted by. This ancient pastime, enjoyed by Eastern literati, has historical remnants in Korea, such as Gyeongju's 'Poseokjeong' (believed to be from the Unified Silla period) and Changdeokgung Palace's 'Okryucheon' (from the Joseon Dynasty). The museum also offers various traditional liquors for sale, including Samsando, Songhwayangjo, Sujak, and Jeonju Gayangju. For those interested in collecting unique liquor bottles, the diverse designs might catch your eye. It certainly made me curious about the taste of these traditional brews! Jeonju's scenery and night views are beautiful, with autumn reportedly being the most stunning season. I've heard that the Gayang Festival is also a great time to visit, and I'd love to experience it myself sometime. Overall, a visit to Jeonju Korean Traditional Wine Museum, along with exploring Jeonju Hanok Village, promises to create enjoyable memories. It's a fantastic spot to gain insight into a significant aspect of Korean culture while enjoying the charm of the hanoks. #jeonju #historicallandmarks #museum
