Ryugusha Dragon Shrine, Mie Prefecture

Ryugusha (Dragon Shrine) is a shrine located at the same entrance as the “Meoto Iwa Married Rocks” in Ise City, Mie Prefecture. It is believed that the god Owatsumikami, who is the guardian of the sea, is enshrined here. In 1794, after the great tsunami disaster, the Dragon Shrine was built and enshrined here to ensure safety at sea and to avoid water disasters that may befall the locals. Therefore, this shrine is worshipped by those who are related to the sea, such as fishermen and boat drivers. In the area around Ryugusha, there are dragon statues in almost every part of the shrine. There are also amulets for sale that are believed to bring safety when going out to sea.
