Husky sledding in the Arctic Circle

The Siberian Husky is a breed of dog trained to pull land vehicles, most commonly sleds, over snow. Sled dogs have been used in the Arctic for at least 8,000 years and, along with boats, were the only means of transportation in the Arctic until the introduction of semi-trailer trucks, snowmobiles, and airplanes in the 20th century. They were used with varying degrees of success during polar exploration and the Alaskan Gold Rush. Every March, Norway holds Europe's longest husky sled race in Finnmark County. The race is 1,200 kilometers long and takes 5 to 6 days with 14 huskies across the snowy Finnmark County. Usually, there are about 160 teams and 1,500 huskies participating. Figures 1 to 6 were taken in Inari, Finland. Figures 7 to 11 show a bobsleigh team that we encountered in Finnmark County, Norway in 2018.
