Nanxun Ancient Town is known as the "Land of Culture" and "Land of Poetry and Books." It has produced many famous figures, such as Zhang Jingjiang, a legendary figure of the Republic of China; Zhang Shiming, one of the founders of the Xiling Seal Art Society; and Xu Chi, a renowned poet and essayist. The discovery of ancient cultural sites such as Hongcheng, Huacheng, and Shangshi within Nanxun's borders indicates that as early as the Neolithic Age, primitive clan tribes were already thriving here. The ancient town is structured around a cross-shaped river system formed by the Nanshi River, Dongshi River, Xishi River, and Baoshan River. Numerous rivers crisscross the area, with streets and residences distributed along the riverbanks. The town's layout follows the rivers, with Nan East Street and Nan West Street serving as connecting points, creating a cross-shaped pattern. The street and alley textures are well-preserved, and the waterway system remains largely intact. The town features the typical Jiangnan water town style, with houses built along the water and streets following the river. It also boasts many high-quality private mansions and Jiangnan gardens, creating a unique urban landscape where small bridges and flowing water coexist with grand mansions and gardens.
