Millennium-Old Temple Hanging in Midair

Temple Location The Hanging Temple is located between the cliffs of Cuiping Peak on the west side of Jinlong Gorge, Hengshan Mountain, Hunyuan County, Datong City, Shanxi Province. It is situated in the steep canyon of the Hengshan Mountain range. The temple is about 65 kilometers from Datong city center, surrounded by the magnificent Loess Plateau landscape, echoing the main peak of Hengshan. Its unique construction principle of "half-inserted flying beams as the base, cleverly supported by hidden rocks" allows the pavilions to be connected by plank walkways, backed by steep cliffs and overlooking a deep valley, with the highest point about 60 meters above the valley floor. The temple layout follows a "one courtyard, two towers" pattern, divided into the South Tower, North Tower, and the Long Bridge.
