Three-Day Two-Night Hiking Diary in South Taihang

⛰️Majestic Taihang stretches for 800 miles, with a history spanning 2,000 years. There are simply too many hikers. Strongly recommend traveling off-peak. We hiked from May 3rd to May 5th during the Labor Day holiday, and there were significantly fewer people!! 🌟Day 1: Xinxiang Station -- Shuangdi Village -- Mawu Village -- Yixiantian -- Baodu Village 1️⃣ Chartered a car from Xinxiang Station to Shuangdi Village, contacted the South Taihang 795 fleet. The driver was very nice and took us to have a special breakfast (five yuan for spicy soup and fried dough sticks to fill up). For those with heavy gear, you can contact in advance to buy gas canisters. We passed several viewing platforms, and the driver stopped for us to take photos. (Baquan Grand Canyon is truly stunning) 2️⃣ From Shuangdi Village to Mawu Village, you will pass through the Taxus Grand Canyon. There is no ascent, but the rocky road is easy to twist your ankle, so be careful of slipping and don't fall into the water. During the rainy season, you can bring water shoes. 3️⃣ From Taxus Grand Canyon to Mawu Village is a 4km mountain road with a 700m ascent. The slope is quite steep, and there is no supply along the way before reaching Mawu Village. The latter part has a 3km cement road, and you can take a car for 10 yuan directly to Mawu Village. 4️⃣ Be very careful at Yixiantian. The road down to the canyon is very narrow and dangerous. On the day we went, someone fell down. 5️⃣ Accommodation in Baodu Village is 40 yuan per person including breakfast. You can contact the homestay in advance for a whole lamb feast 🐑 🌟Day 2: Baodu -- Laolongkou -- Xilian Temple -- Unlit Tunnel -- Zhanggou 1️⃣ Go to Laolongkou at five o'clock to watch the sunrise! It's said to be very impressive, but unfortunately, May is not the rainy season. 2️⃣ From Laolongkou to Xilian Temple, there is no ascent. You can take photos and enjoy the scenery along the way. Arrive at Xilian Temple at noon for a scallion pancake, just in time! Then you can take a tricycle for 5 yuan directly to Houjing Palace, followed by a grueling 600m ascent. Once you climb up, you will reach the entrance of the Unlit Tunnel. You can also take a car through the Unlit Tunnel for 15 yuan per person. You can ask the driver to carry your heavy gear and drop it off before Zhanggou, while you experience the tunnel with a headlamp and take cool photos. 3️⃣ Passing through Xiyagou, you will reach Zhanggou. Remember to take the small road out, otherwise, you will have to pay 100 yuan. There are very obvious road signs along the way. 4️⃣ Strongly recommend staying in Zhanggou! Who wouldn't appreciate a double room with hot showers and air conditioning!! 🌟Day 3: Zhanggou -- Shiziling -- Wangmangling -- Nanping End The famous double ridge crossing of South Taihang is here, but really don't stay overnight at Shiziling. Even if we get up early on the third day to see the sea of clouds, we met a very cute border collie on the ladder to Zhanggou. The third day is strongly recommended to bring knee pads!!! 🎡Actually, South Taihang is not suitable for heavy gear. Light gear is very comfortable, the scenery is beautiful, and there are plenty of supply points along the way. Don't rush, enjoy the journey ❤️
