Taking kids to Huangshan! Avoid these pitfalls at all costs Bringing kids to climb Huangshan is originally a meaningful activity

First, the cable car—don’t “take it on weekend mornings”! There are too many people taking the cable car on weekend mornings. We waited in line for 2 hours, the kids got tired and cried, and they had no energy even before starting the climb. Be sure to take the cable car on weekend afternoons or weekdays when there are fewer people, no waiting in line, and it saves a lot of time~ Next is accommodation—don’t “stay at the foot of the mountain”! Staying at the foot of the mountain is far from the scenic area, and you have to get up early the next day to rush to the scenic spot. The kids don’t get enough sleep and have no energy to climb. It’s recommended to stay at hotels on the mountain, such as Baiyun Hotel. Although it’s a bit expensive (around 500 RMB/night), it’s close to the attractions, so you can sleep in the next day and even watch the sunrise. The kids can rest well~ Regarding food, don’t “buy snacks on the mountain”! Snacks on the mountain are super expensive—one bottle of mineral water costs 10 RMB, a pack of biscuits costs 20 RMB. We found it not cost-effective after buying them and wasted a lot of money. It’s recommended to bring your own snacks, like chocolate, beef jerky, and fruit, which can both replenish the kids’ energy and save money~ For kids’ gear, don’t forget to bring “hiking poles”! The trails on Huangshan are a bit steep, and climbing is very tiring for kids. We didn’t bring hiking poles, and the kids got tired after climbing for a while. Bringing two children’s hiking poles can help the kids save effort and protect their knees~ Planning the route is also very important—don’t “climb too steep peaks”! Some peaks on Huangshan are very steep, like Tiandu Peak, which is not suitable for kids. We almost went to climb Tiandu Peak but were luckily reminded by staff. For climbing Huangshan with kids, it’s recommended to take the route “Yupinglou → Lotus Peak (gentle slope) → West Sea Grand Canyon (trail)”, which is moderately difficult and manageable for kids~ Also, safety is crucial—don’t let kids “go near cliff edges”! Many viewing spots on Huangshan are close to cliffs without guardrails. It’s very dangerous for kids to get close. We saw a child near a cliff edge who almost fell off but was luckily pulled back by the parent in time. Always watch your kids closely, let them stay in safe areas, and avoid getting near cliffs~ Finally, time planning—don’t “go on rainy days”! Huangshan is foggy on rainy days, and you can’t see the beautiful scenery. The trails are slippery too. When we went, it was raining, and we only saw fog, no sea of clouds or strange rocks. The kids were very disappointed.
