Hong Kong Museum of Art|Exploring the Baroque: Treasures from the Capodimonte Museum Collection

🖼【Enter the Baroque Capodimonte Museum Collection Exhibition】Introduction: This exhibition features 40 works from the Capodimonte Museum's collection, showcasing the different styles, themes and artistic achievements in Naples art from the 16th to the 17th century. Many works by late Renaissance and Baroque artists are exhibited in Hong Kong for the first time, including Titian, Annibale Carracci, Artemisia Gentileschi and others. Italian artworks of the 17th century often used dramatic lighting, exaggerated movements and facial expressions to create tension, emphasizing strong and realistic emotional expressions, which historians later called "Baroque art." The Baroque art of Naples is rich and colorful, blending two completely different styles, one is the classical and elegant style represented by Carracci, and the other is the dark realistic style represented by Caravaggio! This exhibition also invites local artists Ng Siu-kin and Chow Chun-fai to respond to the works of Baroque masters through different media, jointly injecting a Hong Kong perspective into the exhibition, allowing the audience to enjoy an artistic experience that travels between ancient and modern times. When I was in school, I loved reading works and history from the Renaissance, because the colors used in the works at that time were very eye-catching and vivid, and with the addition of mythological and religious stories, I was more interested in learning more! At that time, I was more interested in Michelangelo’s works, so I read a story book about his life, and gradually fell in love with this period of history during the Renaissance. So when I traveled to Italy and visited the Sistine Chapel, I was very moved when I saw Michelangelo’s original works! During my trip to Italy, I only visited the north and central parts, and did not go to Naples in the south. So this time I have a rare opportunity to see the treasures of the Capodimonte Museum without flying to Naples. I really have to appreciate it! [Enter the Baroque: Capodimonte Museum Collection Exhibition] is located in the Special Hall on the 2nd floor of the Hong Kong Museum of Art and is divided into 8 major exhibition areas: Introduction, Mythology, Baroque and Biblical Figures, Classical Elegance, Humanism, Beauty and Power, Realism and Naturalism, and Still Life! To complement this exhibition, Baroque music and soundscapes were designed in the exhibition area to add auditory elements to the art appreciation experience and lead the audience into the Baroque art world. In addition to the 8 major exhibition areas, there is also an interactive area called "Into the Baroque" and a session on "Out of the Baroque - Hong Kong Flowers" (local artists Ng Siu-king and Chow Chun-fai)! 📍Enter the Baroque Capodimonte Museum Collection Exhibition Address: Special Topic Hall, 2/F, Hong Kong Museum of Art Exhibition time: 2022.07.15 – 2022.11.02 Cost: $10/$7/$5/Free with Museum Pass After enjoying the exhibition, you may want to go to the top floor of the art museum to take photos and check in.
