For this staycation, I decided to explore the Southern District of Hong Kong Island. While I usually prefer staying in the city center, this time I wanted a hotel that was both convenient and offered good value for money. I ended up choosing Ovolo Southside. Its biggest selling point is undoubtedly its location—right next to Wong Chuk Hang MTR station, making it super easy to get to Ocean Park and nearby shopping malls. If you're visiting Hong Kong with family or kids, this place is incredibly convenient. As for the hotel itself, it features industrial-style decor, which is quite unique, though it might not appeal to everyone. The facilities are fairly comprehensive. While the rooms are on the smaller side, they are modern and well-maintained, with comfortable mattresses. Guests can enjoy perks like early check-in, complimentary bottled water, and toiletries, which are both thoughtful and cost-saving. The staff at the entrance are friendly and can communicate in basic Mandarin without any issues, providing good service overall. That said, there are some details to be mindful of. For instance, the soundproofing is average, so some rooms might pick up traffic noise from the street. Additionally, there were minor cleanliness issues, such as slight stains on the walls. While the proximity to the MTR is a plus, the compact room size might feel cramped for families. If you have high expectations for space or aren't a fan of industrial-style decor, it's best to manage your expectations before booking. One of the biggest advantages of staying here is the easy access to Ocean Park, making it ideal for families with kids. The area also boasts several new shopping malls with plenty of dining options. You can even take a leisurely stroll around Wong Chuk Hang to explore its artsy boutiques and experience the unique blend of industrial and artistic vibes in the neighborhood. Booking Tips: This hotel tends to get busy during weekends or peak seasons at Ocean Park, so it's best to book early. Opt for rooms facing the inner street or on higher floors for better soundproofing. Since hotel rooms in Hong Kong are generally small, it's a good idea to communicate any special cleaning requests with the front desk in advance for peace of mind. Wong Chuk Hang is undergoing a transformation, with more and more trendy spots popping up. If you have time, set aside half a day to discover some unique experiences in the area!
