Tsz Shan Monastery is a Chinese Buddhist temple established in adherence to the teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. We believe that all beings possess Buddha-nature and can cultivate right knowledge and views through listening, contemplation, and practice, thereby eliminating afflictions, achieving blessings and wisdom, and attaining true peace and happiness. Tsz Shan Monastery is a renowned temple in Hong Kong, located in Tung Tsz, Tai Po. It is backed by the Pat Sin Leng mountain range and faces the Plover Cove Reservoir, covering an area of approximately 500,000 square feet. Funded by Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing, the monastery took 12 years to complete, from 2003 to its opening to the public in April 2015. The monastery is divided into three sections: the central area houses the main temple halls, while the monks' quarters and the Guan Yin statue are situated on either side. The architectural proportions of the Grand Buddha Hall are modeled after Tang Dynasty (late Tang) Buddhist temples, with a low roof height that harmonizes with the height of Pat Sin Leng. In front of the Grand Buddha Hall, the bronze lanterns in the courtyard are inspired by those at Todai-ji Temple in Nara, Japan. Visits to Tsz Shan Monastery require prior reservation, typically one month in advance. Online reservations are available for groups of 1 to 6 individuals or larger groups of 20 to 60 people, on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration for the following month's visits opens daily at 8:00 AM, with a daily visitor quota of approximately 400. Admission to Tsz Shan Monastery is free of charge, and the monastery does not authorize any third-party profit-making organizations to arrange visits. Visitors are required to wear modest and respectful attire, such as tops with sleeves, long pants, skirts or pants that cover at least three-quarters of the leg. Sleeveless tops, shorts (pants must cover the knees when seated), short skirts, see-through, or revealing clothing are not permitted. Visitors not meeting the dress code may be required to wear a robe to enter.
