Mei Ho House Museum, opened in December 2013, is the first public housing museum established and managed by the Hong Kong Youth Hostels Association. I believe that many people of this era do not know that the birth of Mei Ho House originated from a fire that occurred in Shek Kip Mei on the night of December 25, 1953 - the Shek Kip Mei Fire. The fire occurred in the squatter area on the hillside of Shek Kip Mei, and it caused nearly 58,000 households to lose their homes. In order to resettle the affected residents and improve their lives, Mei Ho House was completed in 1954, marking the beginning of Hong Kong's public housing policy. The Mei Ho House Living Museum showcases the former community, public housing environment and the changes in living habits, which plays a significant role in understanding the history of Hong Kong housing. 🌟🌟🌟 We came to visit the Mei Ho House Museum because our kids suddenly shared the history of Mei Ho House while we were on the subway passing Shek Kip Mei. (We believe they were learning knowledge in the general knowledge class.) "Why did Mei Ho House come into being? It is the only H-shaped public housing estate in Hong Kong..." he described it in detail.
