A satisfying lunch

Having Japanese BBQ for lunch might seem unusual to some, but for me, it's nothing out of the ordinary. Yakiniku 801 at Tsuen Wan Plaza, a restaurant opened by Japanese owners, has been on my list for a long time. Today, I finally had the chance to try their lunch. I must say, the lunch set is incredibly affordable! The chicken thigh and pork belly combo costs only HK$58 (plus HK$1), and it even comes with rice, miso soup, and a soda. Both the chicken thigh and pork belly were excellently prepared. The chicken thigh is served with scallion oil, and when freshly grilled, pairing it with the refreshing scallion oil is simply divine—perfect with rice too. The pork belly is layered beautifully and grilled to a crispy texture, reminiscent of eating potato chips but even more indulgent. I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of these non-beef options. Even the beef brisket is just HK$68—where else can you find such a deal? The thinly sliced beef brisket is grilled with sauce and only needs a quick sear on both sides. Some might find it slightly salty, but I found it acceptable. Big chunks of meat, big bites of rice—it’s easy to finish a bowl of white rice quickly. Wash it down with a can of Coke, and you’ll feel utterly refreshed! The restaurant has also introduced ramen, giving diners another option. Their special tonkotsu ramen features thin noodles, which I personally love for their firm texture. The toppings are generous, including three slices of chashu and a whole soft-boiled egg, all of excellent quality. And that’s not all—show your receipt to enjoy a discounted HK$15 matcha soft serve at Ufufu Cafe next door (under the same group). Of course, I couldn’t resist!
