Savoring Hainan Chicken @ Pak Dang Premium Hainan Chicken Rice

Hainan Chicken Rice is one of Dad's favorite dishes! So, I often keep an eye on the reviews of various Hainan Chicken restaurants. Recently, I saw a friend enjoying a meal at a highly-rated place in Lai Chi Kok, so I decided to give it a try on my day off. Pak Dang Premium Hainan Chicken Rice is conveniently located in D2 Place, making it easily accessible for us Tung Chung folks. We ordered the two-person set meal for $228 to share! The set was quite rich, including appetizers, soup, main course, half a Hainan chicken, and a plate of blanched vegetables. We also ordered drinks separately. Dad, who loves milk tea, chose the King Tea Hong Kong-style milk tea for $20, while I tried the Japanese apple juice for $20. The soup of the day was a delicious corn, carrot, and pumpkin pork bone soup with no added MSG! The sweet aroma of the vegetables was evident, and it tasted genuinely wholesome. You can also upgrade the soup to a small Bak Kut Teh for an additional $10! The subtle herbal fragrance was very comforting, and the well-balanced pork ribs were tender and enjoyable. For the special appetizer, we chose the spicy marinated chicken feet from the three options. The chicken feet were well-marinated with a gentle spiciness and a great texture, making it a perfect starter. Among the three main course options, we opted for the pan-fried meat patty! It was crispy, not greasy, and had a firm texture. The thickness was just right, making it a perfect match with white rice. The star of the day, the premium Hainan chicken set, came with half a chicken, perfect for sharing between two people. The chicken used was a 60-day-old hormone-free and antibiotic-free Ma Huang chicken. The carefully crafted cooking method resulted in crispy skin and tender meat. The golden-yellow chicken skin was smooth and not greasy, while the meat was elastic and extremely tender. The flavor was rich with the aroma of fresh chicken, absolutely delicious. The three sauces for the Hainan chicken are the soul of the dish! The dark soy sauce was rich and smooth without any bitterness, definitely high quality. The ginger and scallion paste was fragrant and enticing, making it easy to eat a big bowl of white rice. Lastly, the chili sauce, made with various ingredients including Tom Yum, was spicy and flavorful, making one small dish not enough. The set includes two bowls of rice, with a choice of chicken oil rice or jasmine white rice! The chicken oil rice was dry and not greasy, with a hint of spices, and paired well with the three sauces without being overpowering. The healthy green vegetable of the day was Chinese lettuce! It looked plain without any oil sheen, but it was surprisingly crisp and flavorful, not needing any oyster sauce to taste great, a pleasant surprise.
