Little escape from Hong Kong to Cheung Chau

I would highly recommend taking some time to visit Cheung Chau if you’re a frequent traveler to HK and want a quieter space for relaxation. The hustle and bustle is reduced to a few main streets and the curved roadways built on the hillsides offer a feeling of nostalgia. the beaches are generally quite quiet and there is a nice hike to the pirate’s cave nearby, which you can draw into quite easily as long as you have a flashlight (phone torch works well enough). There are quite a few seafood stalls but by far, the best was New Baccarat at the far end of the seafood stall road by the water. Other delicious food places included La Eat for Singaporean fusion food (would recommend the steak - salted and crisped to perfection with some homemade sauce) and also Kyoudai Izakaya (extremely fresh sashimi, quirky owners, delicious angus beef and okra/bacon skewers with udon). No. 11 is also a nice Western style breakfast spot with juicy burgers and a range of coffee options. nestled in a small square full of local passerbys. Travelling to Cheung Chau is fairly straightforward from Centra Pier 5 but check the schedule careful#cafe#cafe#beachlife for the fast ferry (about 30 mins) and the slow ferry (about an hour). I recommend taking the fast ferry. On the schedule, the times surrounded by blue bubbles are the slow ferries.
