2024 Ho Chi Minh City Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in August)
Ho Chi Minh City was formerly known as Saigon. It is one of Vietnam's liveliest cities and a hub for commerce and culture. This place has all kinds of classically elegant French buildings that were left behind from the colonial period. You will feel almost as if you are in Paris. Apart from the sightseeing tours of places like the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica of Saigon, the Ho Chi Minh City City Hall and the Municipal Theatre, you can witness more grand French-style architecture off the beaten path by visiting the Central Post Office and mail a post card. At the Reunification Palace and the War Remnants Museum you can learn about Vietnam's more recent history, take a boat trip along the Mekong River, or enjoy a cup of Vietnamese coffee in an old French-style café. Phạm Ngũ Lão Street is very quiet and peaceful during daylight hours. Once night falls, however, this place comes alive. Not only an excellent place to enjoy the city's nightlife, it is also a favorite place for backpackers to stay.

City walking in Ho Chi Minh is one of the best activities to do! There is so much going on in the vibrant city. Street walking vendors selling fruit, hundreds of motorbikes whizzing down the road, beautiful light at night, there is no reason not to visit Ho Chi Minh.
Enjoying the delicious Pho noodle dish at a small roadside restaurant, drinking a tonic coffee is the perfect ending to a hot day of visiting the monuments, landmarks and Cathedrals.

Best coffee in Vietnam at Trung Nguyen cafe
#cafestory
As a coffee lover, I spent my weekend getaway to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It is known as one of the best country that has amazing coffee quality in the world. For recommendation, I highly recommend you to go to Cafe Trung Nguyen Legend Coffee. They have 5 variant of its own best coffee called Sang Tao, which is:
Variant 1: Culi Robusta
Variant 2: Robusta & Arabica
Variant 3: Arabica SE
Variant 4: Culi Arabica + Robusta
Variant 5: Culi Arabica
I tried variant 4 and it's really suit my taste, in fact that was the best coffee I have ever had!
It is not hard to find this cafe because it is spread all over the city and easy to find.
Here is the one I went to:
Address - 📍Trung Nguyen Legend Cafe Van Chiem
Ambiance - warm and relaxing
Highlights - Sang Tao coffee
Avg. Price per Person - 45.000 VND and more

Vietnam Travel Guide | Almost got heatstroke in Ho Chi Minh
In Ho Chi Minh for a few days it was:
💒 Checking out attractions
🍜 Eating Vietnamese noodles
☕️ Drinking coffee
🛍️ Shopping for clothes
💆♀️ Getting a massage
1️⃣ About attractions
- If you have time, the Central Post Office/Pink Church/Art Gallery/War Remnants Museum are all worth a visit
- The Central Post Office is quite small, and there are some souvenir shops inside
- We went to the Pink Church on the weekend when it was closed, so we just took photos at the coffee shop opposite
- The Art Gallery is relatively large and worth visiting, also very photogenic
- The War Remnants Museum is the most popular, mainly about the history of the Vietnam War, and there are a lot of Western visitors
2️⃣ About Vietnamese noodles
- Didn't specifically plan to eat at any particular place, just randomly went to a Vietnamese noodle shop near the Central Post Office, turned out to be a hidden gem
- Picture 10, the shop name is pho cao van
- Ordered two bowls of beef noodles with a whole 🥥 for only 45 RMB
- There was also a compatriot eating there who didn't have cash, so he exchanged with us on WeChat. When paying, we told the owner we would pay together, and when she saw we were not at the same table, she told the compatriot not to worry about it and to come back after exchanging money.
3️⃣ About coffee
- Visited the popular ones like the workshop coffee / dabao / Linh, etc.
- Vietnamese coffee is really good! Especially the salted coffee, which is salty and sweet!
- Coconut coffee is too sweet for me, but those who like sweet drinks can try it
4️⃣ About shopping
- If you want to keep it simple, just go to D Nguyen Trai street
- I don't think you need to specifically look for a certain store, many of the stores recommended online didn't have anything great, and some of the more popular ones were of average quality
- Anyway, there are super many clothing stores on this street, if you have time you can visit each one
- The green short-sleeved shirt in pictures 5/8/11 was just from a random store, only 55 yuan!! And the quality is pretty good
5️⃣ About massage
- Massage shops are everywhere, but still check Google Maps for reviews according to your needs
- I had a body massage at Norah spa, the environment is relatively better, comfort level is average, similar to domestic ones, but definitely cheaper
- Had a hair wash at Xuan Lan Spa&Hair, also not expensive, quite formal, worth experiencing
- Both of these shops are on the same street, very close to each other, and there are also some clothing stores nearby like Datt/ S.C Studio etc.
- Finally, make sure to wear sunscreen, Ho Chi Minh is really super hot and the sun is extremely strong! It feels like melting on the streets during the day!

My Favourite Food From Ben Thanh Market
#hiddengems #vianasjourney #awesomepic
#familytrips2024 #vianasjourney #deliciousfood
1) Crispy Vietnamese Pancake (Bánh xèo); savoury fried pancake made of rice flour. Stuffing including prawns and bean sprout. Mine was extra special because mixed with coconut milk which makes it more creamier and smells delicious. This one is my favourite of all.
2) Pho; This one need no introduction, I had it few times while in the city.
3) Chargrilled pork & betel leaves
4) Banh Flan (Vietnamese Creme Caramel - A Silky Egg Pudding)
5) Vietnamese Coconut Coffee - creamy texture and subtle tropical sweetness. But any vietnamese coffee worth trying.
6) Lychee - while I was visiting, lychee is in season and I think it is my favourite fruit from that trip.
Places Worth Visiting in Ho Chi Minh City
#familytrips2024 #vianasjourney #awesomepic
1) Ho Chi Minh Town Hall; Beautiful architecture -French colonial style.
2) Post Office; Old building, selling souveniors and if you interested to join hop in hop off bus, this is the starting point. Plenty of small food stall outside of the post office, all accept cash.
3) War Remnants Museum; There were plenty of real pictures during the war, how locals were struggling and everything. Be cautious if you bringing children because even for me, I got very emotional when reading and seeing those images. Ticket is very cheap, you can buy onsite/ at entrance.
4) Landmark 81; Tallest building in Vietnam. The lights makes it look majestic in the evening. If you have time, take the chance and view Saigon from the top of this building.
5) Tan Dinh Church; Unique because the colour if the building but honestly, it was hard to take nice pictures over here because it was super crowded. Visitors are not allowed during mass hours.
6) Bach Dang Station; More modern and colourful architectures. Near the harbour, there is an open space/ park with a lot of benches for visitors.
7) Ben Thanh Market; Selling mostly souveniors, clothes, food and drinks. All kind of stuff available here. If you wanna eat like local, come here. Food were super cheap but so delicious. Here what I recommend;
- Pho
- Vietnamese coffee
- Crispy Vietnamese Pancake ; contain shredded coconut
- chargrilled pork and betel leaves

What to do in Ho Chi Minh City? Let's prepare for the summer vacation!
Isn't it time to start preparing for the summer vacation?
If you don't want to miss out on both a resort and a city, I recommend the Ho Chi Minh-Mui Ne course!
I didn't expect much from Ho Chi Minh City and only planned two days for the first and the last day, but there was more to see than I thought.😀
There are many delicious restaurants and many tourist attractions nearby!
Post office, city hall, Ben Thanh Market, etc.
The nearby parks are also well-maintained, so it would be nice to take a leisurely look around!

THE DECK Saigon RESTAURANT - Ho Chi Minh
🕰️Business Hours: 8:00 AM - 12:00 AM Daily
🏖️Intro: The Deck is situated on the banks of the Saigon River, a short 15 minute journey from the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. Saigon's only modern restaurant Pan Asian cuisine where friendships, romance and fine food comes together. Once you’ve been greeted by a smile, share the sunset, unwind with a signature cocktail and enjoy the contemporary experience it will be hard for you depart.
📍Address: 38 Nguyen U Di St., Thao Dien, District 2, Ho Chi Minh City
💰Average Price per Person: $20 – $50
💞Reasons to Recommend: Great location right on the river in a smart suburb a little out of the centre of HCMC. Great food for all courses, though portion size rather small. Nice people very comfortable and good wine list at reasonable prices. Great cocktails but over iced so quantity light again. Overall well worth a visit, and only downside is need for very deep pockets - the most expensive in HCMC we found.

Four Days and Three Nights in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam - Be Mindful of Your Belongings
The 4.30 and 5.1 holidays in Vietnam make for a perfect opportunity to take a four-day, three-night trip from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh. Excluding the travel days at the beginning and end, the trip is essentially two days and three nights.
A trip like this is quite cost-effective. You can fly with VietJet Air, and a round trip costs only 1100, including over a hundred for insurance. The hotel costs about two hundred per night. There are actually many accommodation options in Ho Chi Minh, and since we didn't want to be disturbed at night, we didn't book a place on Pham Ngu Lao Street. Since it was our first visit, we didn't know what to do in other districts, so we mostly stayed in District 1.
Day1: 4/28
We took a car from our place to Hanoi airport at 9 am. The airport is quite small, so it was easy to get our tickets and go through security. The whole process was very smooth; domestic flights in Vietnam are indeed simple. After that, we flew to Ho Chi Minh. The airport exit there is also small, and you're at the baggage claim as soon as you enter, taking less than two minutes from getting off the plane to exiting the terminal. It was incredibly efficient.
What followed was the most disgusting experience I had in Ho Chi Minh. I was planning to use Grab after exiting, but a taxi driver kept calling out to me. I thought about it and decided to take the taxi. When we arrived, the meter showed 135K. I handed over 200K, and the driver kept saying he had no change. He took my money, supposedly to get change, but it still wasn't enough. He then claimed I had to pay the 9K toll from the airport, asking for 150K. I didn't want to waste time arguing, so I called a friend to give him the change. After finally handing over 150K, we got out of the taxi. Later that night, I realized the driver's trick and discovered I was missing two 500K notes. This incident was extremely upsetting; not only was the taxi expensive, but the driver also tried to be clever with small change and even stealthily took my money. This was the worst experience of my trip to Ho Chi Minh, and I advise everyone to be careful. Never let the driver handle your money to get change. I've certainly learned my lesson.
Afterward, we checked into the Cap town hotel. Unfortunately, we were assigned to the 8th floor, and the elevator only went up to the 7th floor, so we had to climb a flight of stairs. My friend's room, number 4, was quite nice and spacious. My room, number 3, was particularly small and not worth it. Rooms 1/2 face the street, room 3 faces the side, and rooms 4/5 face a temple at the back. Overall, except for room 3, the other rooms were okay. 😢 I just have bad luck. The hotel was mostly occupied by foreigners, especially Europeans and Americans. The breakfast was decent, although it was almost the same every day.
We rested in the hotel for a while and went out for a walk in the evening. The nearest market, Chợ Bến Thành, was crowded with all sorts of goods, but we quickly passed through and walked to the seaside square. Crossing the road to the seaside was difficult because there were no traffic lights, and it was hard to find a gap between the motorcycles to cross. Later, we strolled down the pedestrian street, which had performances and many photo spots, such as the famous coffee shop that occupies an entire building with a stage set up for various performances. Further down the street are the City Hall and the Opera House. The whole street was lively and felt great.
We had Korean hotpot for dinner and went back to the hotel to rest because we were tired.
Day2: 4/29
The next morning, we set out to visit some landmarks. First was the Independence Palace, which looked nice from the outside but had little to see inside, just some rooms. Then we passed by the Cultural Museum without entering and walked towards the Notre Dame Cathedral of Saigon. We hoped to visit before it closed at 11 am, but upon arrival, we found the main entrance under renovation and closed. We took a look from the side and then visited the nearby Saigon Central Post Office, which we also left quickly. We finished touring by noon. After that, we browsed the book street, had coffee, and ate at the well-known Vietnamese restaurant nhà hàng ngon. In the afternoon, after being overcharged for two coconuts, we headed back. We skipped a few attractions, such as the War Remnants Museum, because we had seen similar exhibits in Hanoi. If you're just sightseeing, you can finish in less than a day. In the evening, we went to the Bitexco Financial Tower to watch the sunset and the city's night view. We had planned to take a boat tour to see the night view but decided against it, thinking it wouldn't be as impressive as the boat tours in Guangzhou. Then we visited Japan Street, had Japanese food, and found that it was truly a paradise for men. However, my friend was scared and kept walking forward, so I had no choice but to follow. This was a big regret of the trip. 😪
Day3: 4/30
Today was quite leisurely; we strolled through parks, had coffee, and got massages. The sun was intense, so we spent a lot of time resting in the hotel.
In the evening, we went to Bui Vien Walking Street. This street is almost entirely made up of bars and is very lively at night. It's a must-visit for tourists to experience.
Day4: 5/1
We returned to Hanoi. At Ho Chi Minh airport, we experienced the convenience of not having to queue for boarding passes, as we could use the codes we booked online for self-service ticketing. An airport staff member helped us, and it was done quickly. Since we had no checked luggage, we didn't need to queue for boarding passes, which I highly appreciate.
Overall, this trip to Ho Chi Minh was somewhat regrettable, with some unpleasant experiences and places we didn't fully enjoy. Due to time constraints, we had to return. I suggest that to have a good time, it's best to travel with friends who share your interests and to allocate more time to avoid regrets.

Com tam or well known as broken rice is a famous & iconic dish in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam 🇻🇳
It is made by few main ingredients such as broken rice, grilled pork rib, shredded pork skin, steamed eggs & carrots.
The most important to make the cuisine just right is the fish sauce.
The smokey pork rib with the fish sauce & chilli 🌶️ just delicious 🤤
To experience like a Saigonese, you should try the broken rice when you are coming to Ho Chi Minh City 🤭

A Pleasant Stay at the
Unexpected luxury! I could tell this was going to be a 5 star hotel given the pictures of the hotel exterior and interior on Trip.com, but the class level of this hotel kept pleasantly surprising me throughout the stay.
The lobby was rather grand, spacious with a piano, lobby lounge and drop off area. A little essence of European vibes. Welcome drinks provided as well.
The room was comfortably big, which is a luxury when staying in the capital. Had the interior design of modern day 5 star hotel rooms, balancing together with subtle classic European looks with the furniture, walls and toilet.
Breakfast was amazing. The kind where the spread is delectable and large. Vietnamese, western, sushi, pastries, desserts, fruits. Too many choices. First hotel I’ve seen with a system to deliver your live stations food to your table (eggs, pho, bahn mi).
The little things: A fresh rose in the room (I thought it was fake till I saw the staff with a trolley full of watered roses in the corridor). Quality amenities. Branded soaps. Quality toiletries (except shaver). Bath salts. Room amenities given in a paper bag when requested.
Definitely would stay here again if I’m coming back to Ho Chi Minh. #hochiminh #Saigon #Vietnam #Hotel
Buzzing Nightlife in Ho Chi Minh City 🇻🇳

📍Bui Vien Walking Street, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
One of the must visit destination in Ho Chi Minh City would be Bui Vien Walking Street. It was lively and happening, lots of lights, music, chattering, laughters happened all at once. This place is like Las Vegas, but a more affordable option, love it! The whole stretch of street is filled with bars and clubs, indeed a very vibrant and bustling area in the Ho Chi Minh City! The ambiance and atmosphere was electric and buzzing, the lights from the bars and clubs were dazzling and shining so bright, great place to have a drink and soak in the vibrant energy of the city!
I wish to travel to Hong Kong for the food!
Shopping at Cozy Boutique in Ho Chi Minh 🇻🇳
#winhkflight
📍Libe, Ho Chi Minh City
Was strolling on the streets of Ho Chi Minh City and came across this clothing store, Libe. It is located on the second floor, but the big logo and name of the store makes it easily spotted on the street. The store is spacious and clean, love that there are various kinds of clothing designs, modern and unique. As Ho Chi Minh is summer all year long, the clothing items are mostly made with thin layer of fabrics. What I love about this store is that it is a cozy quaint boutique, the clothings are uniquely designed. There are only a few sizes / pieces available, it is not so easy to find someone wearing the same piece!
I wish to travel to Hong Kong for the food!
The Café Apartment in Saigon 🇻🇳
#winhkflight
📍The Café Apartment, Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam
Visited this famous touristy spot, The Café Apartment in Ho Chi Minh city centre. It is a multi level building with quaint little cafes and stores selling random artsy stuff like tote bags. The building is quite old, but was really cool! You can choose to explore the building by taking the stairs or taking the escalator (which comes with a certain charges). There are many cafes in the apartment block, like the famous Arabica coffee store from Kyoto, poke bowls. We entered Arabica coffee store and they do have a beautiful view overlooking the streets of Ho Chi Minh city centre, however the seats are quite limited.
I wish to travel to Hong Kong for the food!
