It is said that Hita lacquerware began in the Meiji era when technicians were trained to develop a new industry in this area where forestry was thriving. Now, the owner of this shop is the sole heir to Hita lacquerware. I wanted to replace some old family items, so I bought four pairs of lacquer chopsticks that caught my eye as soon as I entered the shop. The wife recommended that octagonal chopsticks are more popular than square ones these days. They are smooth to the touch. The luster and color will deepen with each use.
