Hekou - A border city you must visit Hekou is located in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province, also known as Hekou Yao Autonomous County, bordering Vietnam. Hekou is very hot, even in winter you can wear short sleeves. When you come here, you will find that this border town has many fun and novel things. Tips: 1. Taxis are the main mode of transportation in Hekou (remember this). You will find that you cannot get a ride-hailing car here. 2. Many Vietnamese people live and work here, because it is only separated from Lao Cai Province, Vietnam by a river. But most Vietnamese people can speak Mandarin, so you don't have to worry about communication. 3. The most lively place here is the Exotic Street, where you can look across the river to Vietnam and see the century-old train station - Vietnam Train Station. 4. Food: We tried Vietnamese coconut rolls and black bean ice, which were sweet. Most of the food can be found in Vietnam City, also known as Exotic Street. The restaurant we ate at is called "Red River Valley", which is popular with locals and Vietnamese people. You can try the local specialty duck egg, but many people don't like it. Vietnamese spring rolls and galou meat are highly recommended.
