HOKOKUJINJA SENJOKAKU PAVILION.

Hokokujinja Senjokaku Pavilion on Miyajima Island is an impressive structure with deep historical roots. Built in 1587 by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, it was intended to serve as a library for Buddhist scriptures. The name "Senjokaku" translates to "Pavilion of 1,000 Mats," hinting at its large size. The hall remains unfinished, as Hideyoshi passed away before its completion, leaving it an open and airy space. The pavilion is next to the iconic five-story pagoda, offering a serene view of the surrounding area. Its wooden structure, devoid of walls, allows for a unique experience where visitors can feel a connection to the natural environment. The vast open space is often used for local events and cultural activities, making it a significant spot for locals and tourists.
