If you want to enjoy Itsukushima Shrine in a relaxed, private setting, we recommend an early morning stroll. This luxurious experience is only possible when staying on the island. On the day we visited, we arrived just before 7:00 AM, and it was completely private for about 20 minutes. While availability may vary from day to day, we recommend arriving just before 7:00 AM, when the number of ferries from Miyajimaguchi increases. The corridor has gaps to protect against high tides. High heels and other footwear may get stuck in the gaps. This is a valuable piece of architecture, so please wear comfortable walking shoes!
