This time I will introduce a very famous scenic spot in Hangzhou: Xianghu Lake. Xianghu Lake is located in Xiaoshan District of Hangzhou City. It faces West Lake from the north to the south across the Qiantang River. Official propaganda says that it is the "sister lake" of West Lake. So what is Xianghu Lake like? Can it live up to the expectation of being the sister lake of West Lake? 1⃣ Mountain shape and water flow As the background of the lake, the mountains are actually very important. Xianghu Lake is sandwiched between two narrow mountains. The mountains are not very high and are discontinuous in the middle. The outer areas of the mountains are all flat urban construction areas, so the mountains appear relatively thin. When looking across the lake from any point on the coastline, there is a lack of undulating and multi-layered mountains as the background of the water. The West Lake is surrounded by mountains on three sides, with large areas of continuous mountains on the west and south sides. When viewed from a distance, the layers of mountains are hazy, making the scenery of the West Lake even more moving. Judging from the water surface, the two lakes have similar water areas. West Lake is in the shape of a solid mass, while Xiang Lake is long and narrow, with a slightly cramped water surface. 2⃣ Landscape Features There are several long embankments on Xiang Lake, including Xiang Dike and Yue Dike, which should be modeled after the Su and Bai Dikes in West Lake. There are 108 antique-style bridges built on the lake, each with a very charming name, which also continues the genes of West Lake. In terms of plants and trees, Xianghu is too young after all; the trees lack a sense of age and the plantings are somewhat sparse. However, Xianghu Lake has many more lawns than West Lake, which is more in line with the leisure needs of contemporary people.
