Jingci Temple by the West Lake: A Royal Temple

🏔About the Attraction: Jingci Temple is one of the ten scenic spots of the West Lake in Hangzhou and is as famous as Lingyin Temple. Located on Nanping Mountain, the temple houses a bell whose resonant sound can be heard across half of Hangzhou, soothing the restless hearts of the people. Originally built by King Qian Mu of Wuyue for Master Yongming, the temple underwent repeated destruction and renovation throughout the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, ultimately succumbing to war. Rebuilt in modern times, it remains a tranquil sanctuary by the West Lake, renowned for its efficacious prayers, especially during the "Evening Bell at Nanping" event, which doesn't attract excessive crowds even on holidays. 📝Visiting Guide: Bell Tower: Home to the Great Brahma Bell, donated by foreign Buddhists. Ringing the bell costs 10 yuan and is said to bring good luck and peace throughout the year. Grand Hall: Featuring a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof and yellow glazed tiles, the hall exudes a solemn and dignified aura. The plaque above the hall, inscribed with the four characters signifying equality, is a calligraphy work by Master Hongyi. Jizu Courtyard: This small courtyard on the west side houses a statue of Jigong (Figure 7). At the entrance is Jigong Living Buddha's ancient well, used for transporting timber. Legend has it that 99 logs were used to renovate the temple, with one remaining at the bottom of the well. Jigong became a monk at Lingyin Temple, resided at Jingci Temple, and passed away at Hupao Temple. Jingci Temple Art Museum: The Huirui Peak Stele, dating back to the reign of Emperor Gaozong of the Song Dynasty, is housed here, along with numerous stone Buddha statues. Sakyamuni Hall: The outer platform offers the best vantage point for photographing Leifeng Pagoda. Su Chun Zhai Vegetarian Restaurant: Only set meals are available on holidays. The vegetarian goose and Luohan noodles are recommended. ⭐Tour Route: Bell Tower — Jizu Courtyard — Grand Hall — Art Museum — Sakyamuni Hall — Su Chun Zhai 🕙Opening Hours: Daily (6:30 am–5:00 pm) 💰Cost: 10 yuan, including three incense sticks. Su Chun Zhai has a separate back entrance and shouldn't charge an entry fee as it's within the temple grounds. 🚗Transportation: Parking is 10 yuan per hour. The temple is 500 meters from the nearest bus stop. 📝Tips: The scenery is most beautiful at sunset.
