Yuyin Hall, Longmen Ancient Town, Hangzhou, Zhejiang

Also known as the "Guanfang Hall," Yuyin Hall was initially built during the Ming Dynasty. It served as the meeting hall for the descendants of Sun Ru, the 45th-generation grandson of Sun Quan. Sun Ru, whose courtesy name was Kong'en and style name was Huiquan, was selected as a tribute student during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty and served as the magistrate of Changge County in Henan Province. He was known for his integrity and incorruptibility, even selling his family property to aid disaster relief efforts. Legend has it that he resigned from his official post due to extortion attempts by eunuchs. On his way back home, he was intercepted by bandits on Taihu Lake. They searched his boat but found nothing of value. Impressed by his honesty, the bandits gifted him a boatload of Taihu stones and a plaque inscribed with "Qing Shi Liu Fang" (meaning "A Pure Official's Reputation Spreads Through History"). Guanfang Hall was destroyed during the Taiping Rebellion. In the early years of the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty, the clan members prepared timber for its reconstruction, but the timber was again burned by Taiping troops. Due to financial difficulties, the hall remained in ruins for a long time. In 1927, the clan initiated the reconstruction. The timber used was sourced from Ru Gong's public mountain, and the surplus timber, along with three mu of Ru Gong's public farmland and three mu of sacrificial farmland, were sold to cover the construction costs. There was even a surplus after the expenses. The families of the Guanfang lineage didn't contribute any funds or labor; it was all thanks to Ru Gong's legacy. Therefore, the hall was named "Yuyin Hall," meaning "Hall of Legacy." It is now a provincial-level education base for promoting integrity and an officially designated historical building in Fuyang District.
