The Liangzhu Museum has brought in a gold-threaded jade burial suit!

If you missed the "Jade: Stone of Heaven" exhibition at the Nanjing Museum, head to the Liangzhu Museum, designed by David Chipperfield, to see the "Yi Zi Sun" Han Dynasty jade exhibition! The exhibition features a collection of exquisite jade artifacts, and as it's near the end of the year, there aren't many visitors! The Han Dynasty was a time when the belief in immortality and the practice of lavish burials were prevalent, leading to the flourishing and peak of jade burial artifacts. After death, jade was used as plugs, clothing, and burial items, in the hope of preserving the body, keeping the soul intact, and achieving immortality. Jade burial suits, also known as "jade coffins," were used by emperors after death, with gold-threaded suits for emperors, silver-threaded suits for princes, marquises, and princesses, and bronze-threaded suits for high-ranking officials and grand princesses. The Kingdom of Dian used a variety of jade materials, with unique local features such as non-concentric jade rings, flanged bracelets (i.e., jade rings with collars), and copper buckles inlaid with jade pieces. The flanged bracelets and jade pieces with dragon patterns on the jade burial suits are evidence of cultural exchange between the Kingdom of Dian and the Central Plains.
