Hangzhou Kuahuqiao Site Museum, Zhejiang

The Kuahuqiao Site Museum in Xiaoshan, Hangzhou, covers an area of 55,333 square meters and has a floor area of more than 6,800 square meters. The museum consists of the main building and the site protection hall. The museum is designed in the shape of a boat, inspired by the world's earliest canoe unearthed here in 2002. The stepped exhibition hall layout makes the museum gradually rise towards the lake, as if a small boat immersed in history is about to sail into the distance. The museum's exterior walls are covered with copper, fully demonstrating the weight and vicissitudes of 8,000 years of culture. The site protection hall is circular, with an area of more than 1,700 square meters. Its roof is domed and made of steel, forming a curve with the museum's exterior. The museum's collection mainly comes from the cultural relics unearthed from the Kuahuqiao Site and the Xiaosun Site during four archaeological excavations. Important collections include canoes, lacquered wooden bows, herbal jars, wooden pottery wheel base pig mandibles, and more. The visit takes about 1.5 hours.
