The fairy-tale-like White Sand Lake is a hidden gem on the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway.

Some say that you go to northern Xinjiang for the scenery and southern Xinjiang for the culture. However, the scenery along the China-Pakistan Friendship Highway is absolutely stunning. The China-Pakistan Friendship Highway, also known as National Highway 314, starts in Kashgar and ends in Tashkurgan. It is 1,224 km long, 416 km of which are in China. When you drive along National Highway 314, you will be amazed by the diverse landscapes, including the Gobi Desert, Danxia landforms, snowy mountains and lakes, meadows and wetlands, mountain roads, and glacier parks. Almost all the natural beauty is concentrated here, which is breathtaking. Please note: You need to apply for a border pass to go to the Pamir Plateau. This line from the movie "Visitors on the Icy Mountain" is probably deeply ingrained in the memories of those born in the 1950s, 1960s, and even 1970s. We finally made it to the Pamir Plateau, the hometown of Gulandam. The section from Kashgar to Tashkurgan County is probably the best part of G314. White Sand Lake at the foot of the Karakoram Mountains is the first attraction we visited along the way. It takes about three hours to drive from Kashgar. Our driver, Mr. Wu, took us to the north bank, where there are fewer tourists, so we could take some good photos. The distant White Sand Mountain is reflected in the lake. Half of it is blue and half of it is silver, like a hidden gem in a fairy tale. I love the winding, straight, steep, and smooth roads. Sometimes, the snowy mountains are right in front of you, and the end of the road is a lake. So, I took a lot of photos of the road.
