Palgongsan’s Tough Love Peak

#summervacay Started the Birobong hike from the Yeongcheon side thinking it’d be a solid weekend workout. Spoiler alert: it turned into a full-on stair-climbing life lesson. The trail wastes zero time—it’s like, “Hi, welcome, now go up. Forever.” It’s a lot of stone steps and rocky stretches, and just when you think you're near the top… surprise! More uphill. But weirdly, I kind of loved it. The forest is beautiful, the air smells like trees and adventure, and every break spot has a view that keeps you motivated. When I finally reached Birobong (1,192m!), it felt like a real achievement. There’s a big marker, strong wind, and views that stretch forever, clouds, valleys, tiny cities below. Sat down, destroyed some snacks, and felt very alive. This hike isn’t for the faint of heart (or knees), but if you’re down to earn your peak moment, Birobong delivers. Just hydrate, pace yourself, and embrace the climb. The mountain gives tough love, but it’s worth it.
