Xiaoyao Tower in Guilin

Xiaoyao Tower in Guilin Xiaoyao Tower is located in Guilin City, Guangxi Province. Originally built in the fourth year of Wude in the Tang Dynasty (621 AD) by Li Jing, the Grand General of Guizhou, Xiaoyao Tower was named after Zhuangzi's work "Xiaoyaoyou." Ascending the tower offers a bird's-eye view of the peaks along the Lijiang River. Throughout the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, Qing dynasties, Xiaoyao Tower was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. It was finally destroyed during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. In January 2015, relevant departments in Guilin City began reconstructing Xiaoyao Tower on Binjiang Road. It is a two-story, three-eave pavilion-style landscape building, approximately 24 meters high, 22 meters long and wide, with a construction area of 630 square meters. Currently, it is free to visit without an appointment! The three characters "Xiaoyao Lou" in the pavilion are from the Tang Dynasty calligrapher Yan Zhenqing. Created during his mature period, the calligraphy is majestic, full-bodied, and dignified in structure. The plump strokes reveal powerful brushwork. The three characters "Xiaoyao Lou" measure 68 cm, 65 cm, and 60 cm respectively, representing the largest characters among Yan Zhenqing's works.
