A Living Stage of Tradition – My Visit to Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Art Museum

#gzonbudget Tucked along the picturesque Liwan Canal at 127 Enning Road in Liwan District, the Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Art Museum opened on June 9, 2016, as a vibrant fusion of performance space, museum, and garden. It’s a celebration of Lingnan culture, scenic architecture, and Cantonese opera heritage . I arrived just before 10 AM and spent a relaxed 1½ to 2 hours exploring. The museum is laid out across south and north banks of the canal. On the south bank, the beautifully restored exhibition halls, thematic galleries, a Guangfu wooden stage, and gardens are set amidst six courtyard-style landscapes around a central pond—classic Lingnan garden design . Performances on the Guangfu Stage are held regularly, and live demonstrations of traditional costumes, makeup, and instruments took place during my visit . Inside, the main exhibition “Southern Red Bean, Cantonese Charm” introduced the art form’s origins, organizational structure, stylistic elements, and its global influence. Nearby, a theme gallery showcased rotating exhibitions, while a 237-seat theater on site hosts full-scale opera and musical performances with modern lighting and sound . Final Thoughts The Guangzhou Cantonese Opera Art Museum is a richly immersive tribute to one of China’s most beloved opera traditions—beautifully presented within Lingnan-style gardens, historic architecture, and live performance. With no admission cost, compelling exhibits, and seasonal shows, it’s a must-visit for art lovers, cultural explorers, and those seeking authentic regional heritage.

Yongqingfang retains the elements of Xiguan such as blue brick houses and Manchu windows, while injecting new formats such as cultural innovation spots, cafes, and art spaces to form a living cultural block where aborigines and businesses coexist. Visitors can go to the Cantonese Opera Art Museum to immerse themselves in the charm of Cantonese opera and experience one of the four famous embroidery styles in China - Yue embroidery. There is also an online celebrity innovation store that attracts young people to check in, perfectly combining history and modernity. #广州之旅 📍Address: No. 99, Enning Road, Liwan District, Guangzhou 💰Average consumption: 50 yuan
