It served as a clan temple and a resting place for Chen family members traveling to Guangzhou for imperial examinations. Due to the Qing government's concerns about clan gatherings, it was also referred to as the Chen Clan Academy. The hall features a three-section layout and incorporates "Three Carvings, Two Sculptures, One Casting, and One Painting" (wood carving, brick carving, stone carving, ceramic sculpture, plaster sculpture, bronze and iron casting, and painted murals). It is hailed as a masterpiece of Lingnan architectural craftsmanship, showcasing intricate details and auspicious motifs beloved by the people of Guangdong. The museum also displays numerous traditional Guangdong handicrafts.
