The Ancient City's Splendor - Gu'an Agriculture and Handicrafts

The ideal life for farmers in the old society was "thirty mu of land, one cow, a wife and children by the warm stove". The agricultural traditions of Gu'an are similar to most areas of the North China Plain. The general farming practices are: in early spring, spreading manure and planting; sowing around Grain Rain; in early summer, harvesting wheat at Grain in Ear and Summer Solstice and planting late crops, followed by weeding; in autumn, from End of Heat to Cold Dew, harvesting all crops and planting winter wheat; in winter, storing autumn harvest fruits to meet the needs of the year. Craftsmen in Gu'an, mainly masons, plumbers, blacksmiths, small furnace smiths, and barbers, usually apprentice for three years, and graduate after the three-year period.
