Royal Observatory Greenwich

This observatory is located in Greenwich Park on the Thames River in the Greenwich district on the outskirts of London. Located at 51° 28’ 38” north latitude and 0º 0’ 0” longitude, this city, known worldwide for its “Greenwich Mean Time”, was registered as a World Heritage Site in 1997 as the “River City of Greenwich”. The red ball at the tip of the Greenwich Observatory. This unusual, Kendama-like ball is a time-telling ball called the “Time Ball”, and is a famous feature of the observatory. Every day just before 1pm, this red ball rises up to the weather vane and falls exactly at 1pm Greenwich Mean Time.
