Jingjiang Flood Diversion Monument

After the successful completion of the Jingjiang Flood Diversion Project in July 1952, the Central South Military and Political Committee and the General Command of the Jingjiang Flood Diversion Project set up three identical Jingjiang Flood Diversion Monument Pavilions at the north gate, south gate, and Shashi section of the Jingjiang embankment. The monument shown in the picture is the north gate monument, located outside the gate of the Hubei Jingjiang Flood Diversion Project Management Bureau at No. 81 Jingjiang Avenue, Gong'an County, Jingzhou City, Hubei Province. The north gate monument is more than 10 meters high, with a traditional pagoda shape, three layers and four sides, with inscriptions and marble reliefs. The main side of the middle layer is inscribed with the words of Chairman Mao Zedong, the back is inscribed with the words of Deng Zihui, and the two sides are inscribed with the names of 928 labor models who participated in the construction of the Jingjiang Flood Diversion Project. Above the inscription is a marble dove of peace sculpture surrounding a red star column, and below the inscription is a relief of labor models and the construction scene of the Jingjiang Flood Diversion Project, with the workers, peasants, and soldiers being labor models of the project construction. The two monuments and pavilions of the north gate are located at the north and south ends of the flood gate. As a witness to the victory of the Jingjiang Flood Diversion Project and the history of flood control in Jingjiang, it is also a landmark building in the north gate scenic area of the Jingjiang Flood Diversion Project. In May 2006, the Jingjiang Flood Diversion Monument was announced by the State Council of the People's Republic of China as a national key cultural relic protection unit.
