Stepping into Fukuoka's Sumiyoshi Shrine feels like being separated from the bustling city, with an atmosphere of peace and serenity greeting you. The grand torii gate stands amidst the ancient trees, seemingly guarding this sacred place of millennia-old faith. As you follow the stone steps upward, sunlight filters through the leaves, casting dappled shadows, while a gentle breeze carries the faint scent of wood and a serene aura. The main hall is renowned for its simple and elegant Sumiyoshi-zukuri architectural style, with red and white eaves beautifully contrasting against the lush green backdrop. I sincerely offered a votive, silently making a wish as the light sound of bells resonated, feeling a sense of inner peace and tranquility. The clear water pond and stone lanterns within the shrine add a touch of elegance and poetic charm to the entire space. Occasionally, the sound of drums and music can be heard from afar, a rehearsal for traditional festivals. Strolling along the quiet paths behind the shrine, time seems to slow down here. As the sunset paints the sky red, I left with blessings and hope in my heart, deeply impressed by Sumiyoshi Shrine.
