Spring Itinerary: Exploring Germany by ICE Train

With a Eurail pass in hand and a flexible itinerary, I embraced the freedom to explore at my own pace – and it turned out to be the perfect blend of culture, comfort, and discovery. I began in Dresden, a city that stunned me with its beautifully restored baroque architecture and riverside charm. Walking through the historic Altstadt, visiting the Zwinger Palace, and marveling at the Frauenkirche felt like stepping back in time. From there, I boarded the ICE toward Erfurt, a lesser-known gem in Thuringia. The city's half-timbered houses and medieval bridges created a cozy, storybook atmosphere. Erfurt’s cathedral and the Krämerbrücke were highlights of a peaceful afternoon stroll. Next stop: Nuremberg. This vibrant city offers layers of history, from the towering castle and medieval walls to WWII landmarks and thought-provoking museums. I also enjoyed trying the famous Nürnberger sausages in the lively old town. What made this trip special wasn’t just the destinations, but the journey itself – smooth, punctual, and scenic. Gliding past blooming countryside, ancient towns, and wide rivers in a fast, comfortable train made this long road trip itinerary one to remember. Spring truly is the best season to see Germany come to life.
