A Serene Escape by the Turag River – Tour Review

If you're looking for a peaceful day out near Dhaka, a boat ride along the Turag River offers a refreshing escape from the city’s hustle. Recently, I had the chance to explore this calm waterway, and it turned out to be a surprisingly soothing experience. The journey began from the outskirts of Mirpur, where we hired a local boat for a modest price. The gentle sway of the boat and the soft breeze carried the scent of water hyacinths and fresh river air. Despite some industrial pollution along the banks, parts of the river still retain natural beauty—especially near rural patches where greenery reflects on the water like a painting. One of the highlights was witnessing the golden sunset over the river. Fishermen casting their nets, birds flying low, and the distant call to prayer created a timeless atmosphere. We also stopped at a riverside tea stall where the warmth of the tea matched the hospitality of the locals. Though the Turag is often associated with urban congestion and pollution, this short tour reminded me that hidden gems still exist nearby—if we take the time to look. A few cleanup efforts could make it even better, but even now, the Turag holds quiet charm.
