Danzhou·Dongpo Academy Visit

I am originally from Danzhou, living temporarily in the western Sichuan province... Knowing I will not see you again, I wish to stay a little longer. This is Su Dongpo's heartfelt farewell to the people of Danzhou before his release and return to the north in his later years. The despair he felt when he first arrived in Hainan, thinking 'first to make a coffin, then a grave, and finally leaving a letter to my children,' was eventually replaced by his open-minded optimism. He established schools, reformed customs, promoted agriculture, and advised the Li and Han people... While bringing transformative changes to Danzhou, Dongpo did not forget to enjoy the leisurely life of cooking delicious food and writing articles. Thus, modern people have the opportunity to taste the deliciousness of charcoal-grilled oysters and hear the generous joke, 'I often caution my children to be careful not to speak of this, fearing that gentlemen from the north might hear and vie to do as Dongpo did, seeking exile in Hainan to share in this beauty!' —A generation's loyal and righteous Chibi legacy, the bright moon travels across the sky, overshadowing the Northern Song —The eternal virtue of the saintly, the betel nut leaves traces, the spring breeze transforms the rain, benefiting the southern wilderness The later generations of Danzhou have used this couplet to highly condense and evaluate Su Dongpo's life, and particularly highlight his significant importance to Danzhou and its people. As a fan of Dongpo, after visiting Huizhou, I made a special trip to Danzhou, feeling as joyous in my heart as the 'puppy flowers' unique to the Dongpo Academy in Danzhou ☺️☺️☺️
